We are honest in all communications, transactions, and operations.
As non Ugandan nationals we need to be really aware of the 'white man saviour' complex. We put a lot of emphasis on communicating that although James and Shamila are the 'Founders' of Tulinawe, the stakeholders and decision makers are the individuals who are on the ground day in and day out. They are responsible for setting the agenda and objectives of Tulinawe, as Founders we support their vision.
All Tulinawe employees are paid a Living Wage and all salaries and running costs for Tulinawe are covered by Shamila and James. This means that if you donate to us you can be confident that 100% of your donation (minus any banking charges) will go directly into the hands of those who need it.
We spend time with different people to understand their needs and wants, and don't go in with our own agenda.
This means that we recognise our power both collectively and individually and we take care to ensure that open and transparent communication channels are always maintained. We are directed by our employees in all matters internally as well as the goal-setting process and respect their knowledge and expertise. They know Uganda and know best how and when to provide support to their community.
We have a duty to be accountable as our purpose is for the benefit of the community.
We have an independent Financial Trustee who oversees the accounts and financial activity of Tulinawe. We submit annual accounts to the Ugandan tax authorities every tax year. We also ensure necessary resources are readily available and our staff are empowered to make the right decisions at the right time in order to serve their community best.
